Yahrzeit Observances
There are a number of traditional ways to observe a yahrzeit:
- Lighting a yahrzeit candle on the evening before
- Visiting your loved one’s grave
- Reciting Kaddish in memory of your loved one
- Making a donation to Temple Emanu-El or another Jewish organization in memory of your beloved
Temple Emanu-El provides daily opportunities to recite Kaddish. To recite the Mourner’s Kaddish, a minyan of at least 10 adult Jews must be present in person. You may wish to invite family and friends to attend service(s) with you to ensure a minyan. If you'd like to lead a part of the service on the day of your loved one's yahrzeit, please let the service leader know when you arrive.
From time to time, to help make minyan, Temple Emanu-El services are relocated to a shiva house on the East side. Please check your emails, the website or call the office for Zoom links, to confirm minyan times, or if you have any other questions.
Please call the office at (401) 331-1616 or check the Temple Emanu-El calendar for service times.
If there is a memorial plaque in the Fishbein Chapel, it will be displayed during the Hebrew month in which the yahrzeit occurs. If you wish to purchase a memorial plaque for your beloved, please contact Joy Claxton at (401) 331-1616 or email her at joy@teprov.org.
If you have any questions regarding the observance of yahrzeit, contact Rabbi Fel or Cantor Mayer.
