Project Zug at the Rosen Library
For centuries, Jews have engaged in study “hevruta-style”: working in pairs and reaping the benefits of different viewpoints from the excitement and engagement of a study partner. The Rosen Library is partnering with Project Zug—a national project that supports paired, hevruta learning—as our first step in making the Rosen Library a learning hub for Temple Emanu-El.
Theology of Psalms: Praying Biblical Poetry with Rabbi Fel
Jews often take great comfort in reciting chapters of Tehillim (psalms), but we rarely study them carefully. In these sessions from Project Zug and facilitated by Rabbi Fel, we will explore the religious world of the book of Psalms. Through close literary and theological readings of an array of Psalms we will deepen our understanding of the texts and the worldviews they express. We'll encounter texts that are theologically profound, spiritually audacious, and literarily breathtaking. Along the way, we'll consider what it means to pray a text as opposed to merely reading or studying it.
Judaism is About Love with Rabbi Friedman
Despite what you think or may have heard, Judaism is actually a religion of love. This is the transformative claim at the core of Rabbi Shai Held’s groundbreaking book, Judaism is About Love: Reclaiming the Heart of Jewish Life. We will engage with this vision through a Project Zug course designed around the take-aways from the book, guided and facilitated by Rabbi Friedman. This course is an opportunity to examine how and why Judaism is, at its core, about love—and to consider how this framework might transform your Jewish life and practice.
