Join us for Hebrew Conversation and improve your speaking skills. This Fall Semester we will be offering 5 Hebrew Conversation Classes.
- Beginner (5:00-5:45 PM):
Have you always wanted to read Hebrew or did you learn many years ago and need a refresher course? This course is an introduction to Hebrew. You will learn to read and write the Aleph Bet and practice some basic conversational Hebrew. (need to purchase a book)
Taught by: Toby Liebowitz - Introduction to Prayerbook Hebrew (6:00-7:00 PM):
Begin your journey toward understanding Prayerbook Hebrew. This course assumes that you can read Hebrew. If you want to follow along in the prayer book and participate in services with understanding, this class is for you. There will be many ‘aha’ moments as the words on the page and in your ears begin to have meaning. (need to purchase a book and a workbook)
Taught by: Rabbi Daniel Kripper - Advanced Beginners for Spoken Hebrew (6:00-7:00 PM):
This course is offered to those who can read and write Hebrew and are interested in learning how to speak modern Hebrew in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

If you can speak some basic Hebrew using the present and some past tense and are interested in improving your vocabulary and fluency, while having fun with fellow Hebrew speakers, this is the course for you! (need to purchase a book)

This course is for you if you are looking for a fun setting to read and discuss essays, poetry, and music in Hebrew. You can suggest your own topics of interest as well.

Zimrah B'Ma'agal Singing in the Round
Join us to raise our voices in song! We’ll sing a wide variety of Jewish tunes, from classic Shabbat z’mirot to the up-and-coming sounds of Hadar Ensemble. Bring your favorite tunes to teach or just come to learn and sing along. All music lovers welcome, no experience necessary.
Mussar: Ethical Character Development and Training
Join Mike Rosenblum for advice into the world of Mussar. Mussar is a Jewish spiritual
tradition focused on character development and ethical living. Rooted in classical texts and practices, it encourages individuals to cultivate inner virtues—such as humility, patience, and gratitude—through study, self-reflection, and daily action. The goal of Mussar is to align one’s inner life with one’s outer behavior, creating a more balanced soul and a more compassionate world.

Re/Intro to Judaism with Rabbi Fel
Do you want to know more about Jewish ideas, practices, and traditions? Are you exploring conversion? Join Rabbi Fel to learn more about Jewish culture! This course is designed to be an introduction to Judaism for individuals considering conversion and for Jewish people unfamiliar with the tenets of Judasim who wish to learn more. Highly subsidized tuition is $350 for an individual, $550 for a couple. Scholarships available.
Project Zug at the Rosen Library
For centuries, Jews have engaged in study “hevruta-style”: working in pairs and reaping the benefits of different viewpoints from the excitement and engagement of a study partner. The Rosen Library is partnering with Project Zug—a national project that supports paired, hevruta learning—as our first step in making the Rosen Library a learning hub for Temple Emanu-El.
TEimProv: Kibitz and Bits
Discover the joy of improvisation in this fun and supportive class designed for everyone,
regardless of experience! Over the course of the class, Corey Finkle and Jonathan Pearlman will guide us through exciting improv games and exercises that build confidence, creativity, and teamwork. The class will culminate in a thrilling one-hour improv show!
Photography Workshop with Gershon Stark
Days: Tuesdays (November 4, and 11)
This workshop will develop some of the skills that will help you go from taking snapshots to truly creating a photograph. We will explore how the use of light, framing, and perspective can transform your images. Session 1 will introduce these techniques, concluding with an assignment to be completed before we meet again in Session 2. Session 2 will be a critique of all submitted work along with suggestions for those who would like additional skill development.
Daven Deeper: Advanced Service Leading with Rabbi Friedman
You’ve led services on Shabbat, but would like to do so with more intentionality, more musicality, more thoughtfulness. Basically, you want to get even better at it. This advanced service-leading workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn from each other through experimentation, text study, and song. We’ll learn how to introduce new tunes, plan a service, sing so people join in, and let the siddur inspire us to greater meaning.
Shalom Fresh: Meal Prep with Friends
Tired of meal prep? Looking to share the burden of cooking—or simply expand your weekday menu? Join Shalom Fresh and collaborate with a local chef to prepare a delicious meal you can enjoy later in the week. Not interested in cooking? No problem! You can still sign up to take a meal home—no prep required.
Sh'hitah: Kosher Butchering
Join Adam Cable, certified shohet, and explore the ancient and sacred practice of sh’hitah, the Jewish method of kosher slaughter, in this thought-provoking class. Together we’ll examine the halakhic (Jewish legal) foundations, ethical principles, and practical techniques behind this ritual, with insights from classical texts and modern perspectives. Whether you’re curious about kashrut or passionate about Jewish ethics and food, this class offers a meaningful lens into how Judaism approaches life, death, and holiness.
