Legacy Gifts

How Will You Leave Your Legacy?

Temple Emanu-El is dedicated to cultivating, developing, and sustaining Judaism and Jewish living in consonance with the ideals and standards of the Conservative Movement. To these ends, we embrace core values of education, worship, continuity, community, and individual needs.

Many types of legacy gifts support this mission and preserve the future of Temple Emanu-El. With your gift, you will become part of The Temple Emanu-El Dor L’Dor Society, a growing group of congregants, friends, and supporters who are making a difference at Temple Emanu-El.

We invite you to join us. Here are some common options for your consideration.

Temple Emanu-El Dor L’Dor Society

The Temple Emanu-El Dor L’Dor Society honors people who have created an enduring legacy by making a gift in their estate plans to Temple Emanu-El. By arranging for such deferred gifts, Temple Members play a vital role in securing the future of our congregation. We hope you’ll join us in honoring Temple Emanu-El with a gift to support the continuation and thriving of our vibrant community.

Here’s what Terry Sullivan, our Vice President of Development, has to say about what inspired him to
make a future bequest to benefit the shul:

“I’ve included Temple Emanu-El in my estate plans because our congregation is so loving and caring, a community where Judaism and Jewish life truly thrive. Temple Emanu-El is a place where all aspects of the life cycle are honored—where we come together to celebrate simchas and find comfort in times of great loss. I’m especially grateful for the Jewish education that Temple Emanu-El has provided for my children over the years. It’s my hope that by supporting Temple Emanu-El, future generations will continue to experience the same sense of belonging and support that has meant so much to me.”

By naming Temple Emanu-El as a beneficiary of your financial accounts or estate plan, you play a vital role in keeping our community strong and vibrant for generations to come. With your gift, you’ll also be welcomed into the Temple Emanu-El Dor L’Dor Society—a distinguished group of congregants recognized for their commitment to ensuring our Temple thrives from one generation to the next.

If you’d like to follow Terry’s example and make a lasting gift to benefit Temple Emanu-El, please reach
out to our Executive Director, Paul Stouber, at 401-331-1616 or via email at pstouber@teprov.org.

General Bequests: Gifts Through Your Will or Trust

Through a provision in your written and executed will or by naming Temple Emanu-El as the beneficiary or contingent beneficiary under your Trust(s), you can make a gift in the form of cash or marketable securities. There are many types of bequests. We encourage you to confer with your estate plan and/or tax advisors on the best ways to address your needs and intentions.

Beneficiary Gifts:

You also may benefit Temple Emanu-El by naming the synagogue as your beneficiary or contingent beneficiary in your financial plan. There are many ways to do that. We encourage you to confer with your financial planner and/or tax advisors on the best ways to address your needs and intentions. Here are a few examples.

Life Insurance

Temple Emanu-El can accept gifts of life insurance policies in two ways: 1) by designating the Temple as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy through a beneficiary designation form; or 2) by designating the Temple as both beneficiary and owner of a paid-up life insurance policy.

Retirement Plan Assets

Naming Temple Emanu-El as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan asset such as a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh, profit-sharing pension plan, or other donor-advised funds, will accomplish a charitable goal while realizing significant tax savings. We also welcome gifts from donors who wish to make charitable IRA rollover gifts during their lifetimes. We encourage you to confer with your estate plan and/or tax advisors on the best ways to address your needs and intentions.

 Donor-Advised Funds

Temple Emanu-El encourages donors to name the Temple as the recipient of any donor-advised fund assets upon the termination of the fund.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Temple Emanu-El may accept designation as a remainder beneficiary of a charitable remainder trust.  However, the Temple is unable to accept appointment as a Trustee of a charitable remainder trust.

Charitable Lead Trust

Temple Emanu-El will accept designation as an income beneficiary of a charitable lead trust.

To discuss these or other Legacy Gift options, please contact Temple Emanu-El Executive Director Paul Stouber at (401) 331-1616.

If you have already included Temple Emanu-El in your estate or financial plans, please let us know so that we may confirm that we have all required documentation. Thank you!
