Temple Emanu-El Officer Roles and Committees

Jeff Levy – President

Role: Chief Executive Officer of the congregation

Committees:

Executive Committee: supports leadership across all strategic areas, appoints all committees, and presides over board and congregation meetings.

Legal Committee

Presidential Goals:

Financial Growth: Focus on strengthening endowment and encouraging both annual and legacy giving through initiatives like the Dor L’dor Society.

Volunteerism and Leadership: Promote congregational involvement in all aspects of synagogue life, emphasizing diverse pathways to engage and lead. 

Membership Growth: Expand and retain membership by enriching experiences through programming and community building, while honoring the legacy and participation of long-time members.

 

Terry Sullivan – Vice President for Human Development and Planning

Committees:

Nominating: Identifies and nominates board candidates; chaired by Bonnie Ryvicker and Judy Fishman.

Personnel (HR): Oversees employee and clergy HR needs, policy creation, and internal procedures. Also involved in leadership development and ensuring the synagogue runs efficiently.

 

David Gordon – Vice President for Financial Development

Committees:

Gift of the Heart: Oversees a campaign allowing members to contribute based on ability, with recognition levels for generosity.

Development: Currently focused on the "Dor L'Dor Society," which honors members who have included the synagogue in their estate plans. Chaired by Sandy Atlas-Gordon. The Dor L’Dor Society celebrates those who leave a legacy gift to Temple Emanu-El. These gifts include bequests in wills, beneficiary designations of retirement accounts, life insurance policies, charitable trusts, and donor-advised funds. Stephanie Trachtenberg – Vice President for Membership Outreach

Committees:

Membership/Marketing: Delivers welcome bags to new members and develops marketing/communications strategies.

Cemetery: Manages issues related to synagogue-owned burial property. Chaired by Dee Dee Witman (cemetery@teprov.org).

 

Bob Fishman – Vice President for Religious Activities

Committees:

Religious Practices: Works closely with clergy on religious services, practices, and issues of kashrut.

Gabbayim: Focused on developing leadership for Torah services, especially in light of.

Bar/Bat/Simhat Mitzvah: Coordinates and supports families through Bar/Bat or Simhat Mitzvah preparation. Chaired by Leslie Marks-Hershey (bmitzvah@teprov.org).

 

Leslie Marks-Hershey – Vice President for Educational Activities

Committees:

Religious School: Coordinates curriculum and school programming.

Adult Education: Plans educational activities for adults, including courses like Torah chanting and Delve Deeper. Chaired by Leslie Marks-Hershey (adulteducation@teprov.org). Offers diverse programs such as Torah chanting and Delve Deeper courses.

Library: Helps to bring in new books for the community. For information on our latest offerings, contact Maxine Wolfson in the Temple office. Chaired by Tish Brennan (library@teprov.org).

 

Hannah Pearlman – Treasurer

Committees:

Budget & Finance: Works closely with the Executive Director to put together next year's budget, monitor this year's budget, and provides oversight on synagogue expenditures.

Endowment: Monitors financial performance with investment partners to ensure sustainability; chaired by Jerry Dorfman.

House: Manages ongoing building maintenance and repairs. Led by Aaron Guttin, in coordination with Executive Director and Operations Manager, to prioritize needs.

Arts Emanu-El

Museum: Oversees the synagogue's historical collection and displays. Chaired by Ruth Page (museum@teprov.org). The Percelay Museum highlights objects central to Jewish identity and history, enriching both worship and education.
