Festivals
Holiday celebrations at Emanu-El bring out the best in family participation at the synagogue. On Sukkot, children and adults join in parading around the sanctuary with lulavim and etrogim. On Simhat Torah, children, teens and grownups fill the aisles, dancing with the Torah scrolls, while spirited singing gives the spark to a memorable holiday. On Purim, children – and some grown-ups – create a festive atmosphere by dressing in costumes to hear the Megillah and to watch the hilarious Purim Spiel. Passover is often time for reunions at Temple Emanu-El, as members bring their guests who have come to celebrate Seder. On Shavuot, we gather for stimulating study as we renew our commitment to receive Torah. Holidays also include a reflective note, as members say Yizkor, to remember their loved ones, keeping their memories fresh as life continues. |
