USY / Kadima
USY stands for United Synagogue Youth and is the national youth group of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Our synagogue sponsors a USY chapter for our youth in grades 5-12.
We believe Providence USY is special. What makes it so? A great combination of creative programs, fun activities, dedicated parent volunteers, talented staff and outstanding youth!
We are very proud to have been chosen as the International USY Chapter of the Year in 2000-2001. And not to brag, but our USY Chapter has had many regional, national and international board members throughout the years! In recent years, we have won awards from NERUSY including: Most Improved Chapter, Chapter Excellence in Religious/Educational Programs, and NERUSY Chapter of the Year.
Our USY chapter includes Kadima for 5th and 6th graders, Junior USY for 7th and 8th graders, and Senior USY for 9th - 12th graders. USY has three levels: the chapter, the region, and international, each with its own events and activities. Regionally, we are part of “NERUSY,” the New England Region of USY. There are occasional regional Kadima events, more for the 7th and 8th graders, and many events for the 9th – 12th graders. Regional events include conventions, dances, a boys’ basketball and girls’ volleyball league, and other special events.
Internationally, USY sponsors an annual International Convention, as well as summer programs in Israel and the U.S. These currently include USY Pilgrimages to Israel, with an option to visit Eastern Europe, Poland or Spain, Outdoor Adventure in Costa Rica, as well as USY on Wheels (cross-America tours), Summer in New York City and Outdoor Adventure: Pacific Northwest. There is also a 2-month USY High School program in Israel, and NATIV, a post high school yearlong study program in Israel.
